To generate interest among students in Art, Visual Arts teacher Mr Irons built a pinball game for use in the delivery of instruction in his class.
Made entirely from scraps of material, The design and construction was entirely the brain child of Mr. Christopher Irons. The has sparked the interest of several students during and outside of Art class. The game has a farm theme containing small wood cows and design of beautiful landscape. The game itself can be seen as an excellent art piece. It also has lights and makes sounds indicating a successful or a foul play accordingly.
Students have not only been playing the game during class time but some students go to the art room during lunch time to play the game.
The game is played like this: questions related to Art are placed in a drawer on the game board and students who are able to make the ball go into a specific whole on the table are rewarded after answering the question they selected from the drawer correctly.
Mr. Irons says that the game can be used in other subject areas and has invited other teachers from the different departments to write questions for the drawer. The idea is to have as many questions from varying discplines in the drawer. Hence, the game has been built to make learning for students fun. It is hoped that students would be easily engaged in the various subject matters with the inclusion of this pinball game.
